Meaghan Oppenheimer is an American screenwriter, playwright, actress, producer, and showrunner. She is best known as the creator of the Facebook Watch dark comedy series ‘Queen America’. Born on March 28, 1986, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oppenheimer has been involved in writing since a young age and was active in the regional theater scene and regional TV shows. She graduated from Holland Hall and then attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, earning her degree in 2009.
After moving to Los Angeles to start her career in Hollywood, Oppenheimer worked on various projects as a screenwriter. She co-developed the screenplay for the film ‘We Are Your Friends’ and served as a writer on an episode of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’. She also acted in TV shows like ‘Even Stevens’, ‘stalkTALK’, and ‘How to Marry a Billionaire’.
As a screenwriter, she wrote and starred in the 2010 short film ‘Hot Mess’. In 2013, her screenplay ‘The Remains’ was listed in the Black List, an annual list of the best unproduced screenplays. She developed a short-lived mystery drama series starring Penelope Ann Miller for ABC in 2016. However, her most notable project as a showrunner and executive producer is the black comedy series ‘Queen America’, which began airing on Facebook Watch in 2018.
In her personal life, Meaghan Oppenheimer is married to Welsh actor Tom Ellis, known for his role as Lucifer Morningstar in the TV series ‘Lucifer’. They got engaged in March 2017 and tied the knot on June 2, 2019.
Currently, she is working on a couple of different feature films and a dark comedy project, along with enjoying some downtime after wrapping up the first season of her show.
